Understanding Relapse
Relapse is not a sudden event but a process that often begins long before the actual use of substances. It can occur in three stages:
Emotional Relapse: Even though you may not be thinking about using substances, your emotions and behaviors may start to set the stage for relapse. This can include feelings of anxiety, anger, or isolation, as well as neglecting self-care and recovery practices.
Mental Relapse: At this stage, your mind starts to consider using substances again. You might romanticize past use, think about situations where you used substances, or plan a relapse.
Physical Relapse: This is the final stage where you actually use the substance again.
